So I get a lot of emails and calls from people asking me what I’m up to these days - and since I’m notoriously bad with responding and keeping in touch with people, I decided to put up this page to answer your questions. So now you can quit calling and emailing! (just kidding)
So, where do I start?
Day Job:
Essentially, I’m a peon in Sector 7G.
Nah, I should give work more credit than that… I work at a financial corporation as a Senior Technical Analyst. It’s been good, I’ve been moving up the ladder quite nicely - two promotions and a bunch of raises in two years, I can’t complain. Who knows what the future has in store, but currently I’m transitioning into a Project Lead position.
Personal:
Still married, no kids yet. Nothing much to divulge here…
Business:
Business has slowed down since I have other priorities. I still take on smaller dev jobs from existing clients, but all of my new business is from referrals. I realize why companies outsource to India - they’re freaking cheap! They do decent work too. Most of my projects are outsourced; I just manage timelines and clients.
Currently, I’m looking at transitioning from dev/project management work to asset management - not necessarily other people’s assets, at least not until I know what I’m doing. I guess working in a financial company has its side effects - well, not really since I’m not talking RRSPs or anything like that. The 5-10%/year return that the glossy marketing charts present aren’t too appealing to me…
